Geriatric Services

In his practice, Dr. Jazi believes that all people deserve to receive high quality mental healthcare and older adults are no exception! Unfortunately, mental health conditions are usually neglected in older adults. Most mental health disorders in geriatric population need special attention while there is a shortage of Geriatric Psychiatrists worldwide. Dr. Jazi is pleased to have the skills required to diagnose and treat mental health conditions in older adults. He received additional training at UCLA Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship to treat all psychiatric conditions in older adults. Additionally, Dr. Jazi has an additional board certification in Geriatric Psychiatry.

Mental health conditions in older adults include, but not limited to, different types of dementia such as Alzheimer's disease, Lewy body dementia, vascular dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and all other mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or insomnia. Diagnosing some of these disorders such as dementia needs more comprehensive neurocognitive evaluation which is done by Dr. Jazi. In case, further comprehensive neuropsychology workup is needed, he will refer the patient to neuropsychologist colleagues.

Even though medication management might be the focus of treatment planning for conditions such as dementia, there are many mental health conditions in older adults which can be treated successfully by the help of psychotherapy alone! Therefore, older adults are not excluded from Dr. Jazi’s psychotherapy practice if he believes psychotherapy is helpful for them.

Moreover, caregivers of patients with dementia who might be close relatives or family members are at an increased risk of several mental health conditions such as caregiver burden, depression, anxiety, or insomnia. Dr. Jazi’s psychotherapy skills can be utilized by these individuals to not only treat them but also reduce the hardship of taking care of their loved ones.
